Data rates: The data rate has not been provided by ITU what users can expect from 3G equipment or providers, for this reason, users sell 3G service that may not be able to point to the rates it specifies are not being met. ITU does not specify minimum or average rates or what modes of the interfaces qualify as 3G, so to meet customers’ expectations of broadband data, various rates are sold as 3G intended.

Cost and Affordability: CDMA 3G technologies offer the greatest data throughput capability, therefore, that technology offers the lowest cost data services.  GSM networks to 3G, does not have the throughput and performance capabilities of CDMA as GPRS, a 2.5G, TDMA technology intended to bridge GSM.

Challenges In 3G –

Malwares, and viruses: Since many users still are shifting from 2G, 2.5G, to 3G, there is an increasing need of raising the risks such as Cabir worm, Brador Trojan, Lasco Worm, etc. when using mobiles.

Overbilling attack: An attacker uses an user’s IP address and hijacks it to start non-free transfers hence the transaction is charged to the real users. a hacker can intercept IP address and take ownership whenever a lawful user’s IP address is restored to an IP pool thereby taking advantage of a user’s Cellular/mobile network services.

Spoofed policy development process (PDP): This will attack when there are flaws in GPRS Tunneling protocol (GTP) but when hacker pretends to be a legitimate system in case of theft of information, installing malicious software, spoofing occurs.
